When I had a severe flare up recently I developed a strange symptom. I got hard white painful lesions of skin on my fingers and palms which split open and then absolutely all the skin on my fingers and palms peeled off over the next fortnight. I have inflammatory arthritis, Raynaud's phenomenon and carpal tunnel syndrome. My consultant suspects I may have a further autoimmune connective tissue disorder. I wondered if anyone else on the forum has had the skin peeling symptom and what it might signify.

Hi Naomi,

It sounds like you may have chilblains, my Father-in-law has the same problem and he was told by his consultant it was an autoimmune condition. His fingers go very painful, white and very cold and his fingers and hands all peel too, his nails are also very chipped and broken. He gets treatment for it but he suffers lots in the cold. He gets the thermal gloves to wear which help.

Hope this is a help.

Take care Lorna x Smile

Thanks everyone. I will definitely look at some pics of chilblains to see if this is what it might be. I didn't realise that chilblains were autoimmune.

Naomi.

I have a photo of the peeling skin on my hands. It doesn't look similar to the pictures of chilblains on google images. I hope I have managed to post the picture thumbnail into this reply so it can be opened.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this can also be caused by the Rayauds. It may be worth checking up on it.xx

I have been on the Raynaud's and scleroderma healthunlocked website and people on there who have Raynaud's have never experienced anything like this. Those with scleroderma said it was not similar to their symptoms.
